What is this about?

I started this blog because I wanted to give something back to the constantly growing and passionate electronic/indie music scene in Victoria, B.C. Here you'll find local artist & show information, pictures, music, clothing, art and anything related to our scene in Victoria or Vancouver...

So I saw MSTRKRFT in December...

I probably should've mentioned it at the time but I was pretty tired from Christmas and it's material havoc that it was wreaking on me..

MSTKRFT is an electro house duo from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, signed to Last Gang Records. Jesse F. Keeler, formerly of Death from Above 1979 & AL-P (Alex Puodziukas) formerly of the electropop group Girlsareshort, started MSTRKRFT in 2005. On July 18th, 2006, they released "The Looks". (which I own and it rocks, literally). MSTRKRFT has done remixes for such artists as All Saints, Annie, Bloc Party, Chromeo, Justice, Kylie Minogue, Metric and Wolfmother.

Just this last September, they performed their remix of "Woman" by Wolfmother live, in Brisbane, at 'Parklife', an Australian music festival. Wolfmother's Andrew Stockdale came on stage and sang live, while MSTRKRFT performed the remix. Amazing.

I saw them at Celebrities in Van. They played alot harder than what I was expecting, but none the less it was still pretty awesome. The actually look like total gangsters, with thier matching caps and porn star moustaches. I was hoping to see them in their hockey masks but did not get such a privilege.

If you wanna see the pictures I took at MSTRKRFT in Vancouver, ==> Part 1, Part 2.

Thom Yorke could be a god...

Or like a demigod maybe...
A. a person with great powers and abilities
B. a person who is part mortal/part god

Either way, Thomas Edward Yorke is amazing, plain and simple. Yet, I would not define his music as plain and simple, more or less, the exact opposite and beautifully orchestrated.

An English musician, born 10.7.68 in Wellingborough, Northamtonshire, England, Thom Yorke currently resides in central Oxford with his wife Rachel Owen and their two children, Noah (2001) and Agnes (2004). He leads the band Radiohead and has since 1993, releasing 7 albums under the bands name and 5 singles under his own name.

Yorke can play electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, drums, piano and is also an electronic musician. Although known for his unique falsetto and being able to hit and sustain such high notes, Yorke has been found once saying, "it annoys me how pretty my voice is... how polite it can sound when perhaps what I'm singing is deeply acidic."

Yorke has done collaborations with Drugstore, Dj Shadow (UNKLE), Bjork, PJ Harvey & Modeselektor. He got the name 'Radiohead' from the Talking Heads album 'True Stories' in 1991. He is strongly into Activism, including support of fair trade practices, human rights and anti-war movements, anti-WTO and anti-globalisation. He is an environmentalist and a vegetarian.

More to come on Radiohead...
'The Eraser' is amazing, please listen to it..

It's cold at night ...

This tree branch had it comin'!
I just took that picture at Upper Thetis like an hour ago...

Yeah we didn't make it very far.. It got dark and we got lost in Langford (haha) so we ended up going to Upper Thetis in the end, which was actually really dope.
And then we left cause it was freezing and it was only 5pm.

Below is a track by Tommy Guerrero that is only 1:45 but it sounds like your outside in the forest, which is quite suitable I think considering the outcome of my afternoon..

More Radiohead to come for tomorrow I think! God I heart Thom Yorke...

I'm going hiking...

Not sure where though..
might be driving up too Sooke Potholes, or around Thetis Lake..

Happy New Year everyone...

Thank You Amanda for looking so good in the picture above, (taken last year in February)
Okay, so It's 2008, sweet. Hahaha, no but seriously, I hope everyone had an awesome NYE and I hope that everyone was able to get home safe and sound. I'm going to keep this short cause I'm really tired and I want to go to bed..

On NYE I went to Carson & Brandi's wedding (if you don't know who that is, just really good friends). It was absolutely amazing. Totally magical, really happy, lots of smiles, kind of like Disneyland except not at all. After the wedding, a whole bunch of us took a limo to my friend Sean's house and partied pretty much all night and all day today. When we got there, I drank a bottle of Champagne and half a 2/6 of Olmeca tequila before passing out for 5 hours, only to wake up and continue drinking..that's how I roll.

Okay so now I'm going to bed. I'm taking a 9 day break from my blog. When I return, I'll be posting my favorite Top 10 for Electronic & Top 10 for Indie Rock for 2007. This will take place on the 11th. I will then be writing about the angels that call themselves Sigur Ros, I'll have a Trentemoller week, more Thom Yorke & the first Victoria local dj profile.

Everyone should be sleeping and relaxing :)
Happy New Year from Electrikids!
